Finnish rally team Vuotari Racing uses TKE CAN tools to collect and analyze CAN bus data for post-test vehicle evaluation and driver performance analysis
Motorsport teams rely on accurate CAN bus data logging to analyze vehicle behavior, improve driver performance, and optimize setup decisions. In this case study, Vuotari Racing used TKE CANtrace software together with Kvaser CAN interfaces to collect and analyze rally car CAN data during testing. Also, to provide post-test evaluations of the car’s performance and detailed driver feedback. The setup provided valuable insights into vehicle behavior.
Detailed CAN analysis to provide post-test evaluations
Vuotari Racing used a Honda Civic Type R equipped with a CAN-based vehicle network. To collect and analyze the CAN data, the team used TKE CANtrace software together with Kvaser CAN interfaces.
Vuotari Racing set-up includes a Kvaser Leaf Pro v2 OBDII, plugged under the dashboard of Honda Civic Type R. It is connected to a PC running both TKE CANtrace CAN data acquisition software and Zuragon’s ViCANdo data acquisition software. Vuotari Racing will participate during the rally sprint and perform CAN analysis to ensure maximum performance of the car.
In addition to CAN, the latter records video and audio signals. CAN signals are displayed in trace and graph views and can be exported to various formats. As result, for post-testing analysis and CAN monitoring, CANtrace decodes and plots the CAN messages. Zuragon ViCANdo gives the team access to associated video and audio recording from the test run.
CAN tools used in the project
The project demonstrated how professional CAN analysis tools can be used effectively in motorsport environments.
CANtrace
CANtrace is TKE’s CAN bus analysis software designed for monitoring, logging, and troubleshooting CAN networks in automotive, industrial, and heavy vehicle applications.
Kvaser CAN interfaces
Kvaser hardware provides reliable CAN connectivity for demanding testing and diagnostics applications, including motorsport telemetry and real-time vehicle communication.
