Introducing the Kvaser U100 Rugged CAN Interface

Rugged CAN interface Kvaser U100 is the first product in a new generation of rugged CAN interfaces. Kvaser designed the U100 specifically for demanding environments and rugged applications in marine, industrial, heavy-duty vehicle, and off-highway industries.

Kvaser U100 reinforced galvanic isolation that squarely addresses the needs of the evolving automotive development market.

Single-channel CAN/CAN FD interface

Kvaser U100 is a robust, single-channel CAN/CAN FD to USB interface. U100 is enhanced protection of its own electrical circuits, a vibration, shock and drop-proof housing and high-quality cabling. When connected to systems with different electrical potentials, the Kvaser U100 reduces the risk of disturbances caused by current leakage during measurements and diagnostics.

Major Features

The Kvaser U100 includes an intelligent LED user interface for improved usability and diagnostics visibility.

The interface fully supports:

  • J1939
  • CANopen
  • NMEA 2000®
  • DeviceNet
  • SocketCAN

The Kvaser U100 also supports CAN FD communication speeds up to 8 Mbit/s with correct physical layer implementation.
The interface supports both:

  • 11-bit identifiers (CAN 2.0A)
  • 29-bit identifiers (CAN 2.0B active)

Kvaser built the rugged housing from lightweight glass-fibre reinforced polyamide and reinforced the design with galvanic isolation validated with 5000 VAC rms applied for 60 seconds.
The device also features overmolded TPE protection for demanding operating environments.

Connector Options

The Kvaser U100 includes a 9-pin D-SUB connector. Additional product variants with J1939-13 Type II, M12, and OBD-II connectors will also become available.
